There really aren’t any rules as to what you should serve at a baby shower, but here are some guidelines that will help you plan the menu to make it easier for yourself.
Have different options – People love to graze at a baby shower, rather than sitting down for a meal. Cater to this by offering different food options for people to pick through during the baby shower. Make sure to cater to everyone’s needs, including the mom to be, and for others who might be vegan or have any allergies. Ask guests in advance for any dietary restrictions.
Cook ahead of time – You really do not want to spend the morning of the baby shower, or even the actual baby shower, running around trying to get food ready and cooked. Sit down before and make a list of everything that needs to be made, and then figure out what you can make the day before, and what needs to be made on the day. Limit the number of foods that need to be cooked on the day so you don’t spend all your time cooking.
Avoid food themes – It is a good idea to have a décor theme for the baby shower, and even for the cake and cupcakes, but avoid having food themes, as this can be very limiting and prevent you from catering to all different diets.
Avoid messy foods – If you are organizing the baby shower, chances are that you will be part of the clean up as well. Choose desserts that are not messy. Mess-free desserts such as cupcakes, brownies, and cookies are also easier for guests to eat without sitting at a table, and they will probably feel more comfortable eating without having to worry too much about making a mess.
